Fabrizio Plessi was born in Reggio Emilia in 1940. He attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Venica, later becoming Professor of Painting. Since 1968, water constitutes the main theme of his works: developed through installations, movies, videotapes and performances. His artworks have been exhibited at the Biennale di Venezia in 1970 and in the following edition in 1972, too. In 1980 he took part in Festival del Cinema di Venezia presenting Liquid Movie. Plessi studies in deep the connection between the representation and the reality of the liquid element, amplified by the new technological possibilities. In 1985, in Milan there has been a great retrospective of the artist, which can be considered the first environmental video-installation exhibition in Italy. Plessi currently lives and works in Venice.
