William G. Tucker è nato al Cairo nel 1935.

He moved to New York in 1978 and taught at Columbia University and at the New York Studio School of Drawing, Painting and Sculpture. Tucker had many solo exhibitions between London and New York galleries since 1963, he also represented the United Kingdon at the Venice Biennale in 1972. He partecipated at the first solo exhibition of the Arts Council Serpentine Gallery in 1973 and curated the exhibition The Condition of Sculpture at the Hayward Gallery in 1975.
