Omar Galliani
Biography

Omar Galliani (Montecchio Emilia - Italy, 1954). Lives and works between Milan and Montecchio Emilia.

At the beginning of the 1980s he was a leading figure in the Magico Primario movement, led by the critic Flavio Carol, and in the Anacronisti group, supported by Maurizio Calvesi — made up of artists who refer to a typically Italian humanist culture, reformulating and contaminating classical iconography and subjects and dressing up typical contemporary myths with an antique feel.

From the 1980s onwards, Galliani has taken part in numerous editions of the Venice Biennale — in 1984 with his own room in the Arte allo Specchio section, curated by Maurizio Calves —, the São Paulo Biennale in Brazil and the Beijing Biennale, where he won first prize in 2003. Following numerous national and international exhibitions, recognition came in the contemporary art museums of Shanghai, Beijing, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Kyoto, Buenos Aires, São Paulo, Mexico City, Miami and Los Angeles.

The 2006 Chinese tour of the exhibition Omar Galliani. Disegno italiano sealed his global fame, together with the exhibition Tra Oriente e Occidente at the Fondazione Querini Stampalia at the Venice Biennale. His latest achievement was the acquisition of the Trittico Notturno and two drawings by the Gabinetto Disegni e Stampe degli Uffizi.
